Real or a Fantasy?
Are these gorgeous stones truly real? It is a question that is often asked all over the internet. Earth has produced an even greater treasure and beauty to look at- the violet diamond. So yes, it is real! And also, very rare.
1. Origins
These diamonds are formed 100 miles under the earth's surface and take over one billion years to form. Tracing back to history, the “Royal Purple Heart” was one of the well-known purple diamonds weighing 7.34 carats.
This exotic stone has been cut and polished into a heart shape that allows the brilliant color of purple shine even more brightly.
From one of the most famous mines – Argyle, the violet diamonds produced in the past 32 years have been only 12 carats!

2. How does it get its color?
Although it is not completely sure what causes the diamond to get the purplish hue, several theories have been proposed. One of them was that it may be due to the large amounts of hydrogen and boron present in the stone.
These elements on reacting to the crystal might have contributed to giving the diamond its color. Another theory is the pressure experienced on the diamond during the formation of the diamond may have influenced to color.
3. Intensity levels
Unlike colorless diamonds that are graded on a scale of D to Z, violet diamonds range from faint to very vivid.
4. Diamond price
Red and blue diamonds tend to be one of the rarest fancy colored diamonds, with the violet diamond following up close behind. A pure violet diamond is hard to come by, with its value being on the higher price range. However, stones with secondary hues of pink are less expensive.
